Being new to Olympia I have one question concerning the space between Fourth and Fifth avenues at Capitol lake: Why isn't all of that space public space - a park, a public garden?
What a perfect place to connect the Capitol lake parkland with Percival Landing. All of those buildings from Water Street to the inlet should be gone. And then, if the city would use that high rise as the new city hall, with the library on the bottom few floors, the public would have access to a great space that would only enhance Olympia's image.
Then, of course, the former Safeway property could be sold to the developers for condo development - as high as they want. Everyone wins!

Attend the Olympia Planning Commission rezone hearing — Tuesday, June 24, 6:30 p.m.; The Olympia Center (downtown, next to Percival Landing). Sign in as opposed to the rezone proposal and, if you're comfortable doing so, testify.
(If you want to talk, arrive early to sign in. Tri Vo has sent his potential supporters a postcard asking them to get there and sign in at 5:30!)
